On This, The Eve of A New Year

i resolve
  to be more of an anomaly
i resolve
  to strangle the desire to compress
    into tidy little boxes
i resolve
  to embrace the dark
    and the light
i resolve
  to love the browne and the creme
    in aequus
i resolve
   to pursue a truce
     with my hair
i resolve
  to write more, hear more,
    speak less
i resolve
  to radiate love
i resolve
  to protect knowledge
   that is throbbing and new
i resolve
  to resist the urge
   to pulse and shatter
i resolve
  to rethink my definitions
   of beauty
    and strength
      and frailty

Birth Day

I was born in a rocky cavern
sprung up from the ground
a warm spring of water bubbling
up and up
in the darkness

the laughing ripple of
water
over smooth round stones
flowing out of the dark
and into the light

collecting the dark
and the light
carrying it outward
blending together
keeping the laughter

i am the offspring
of a casual affair
among the clouds
i emerged from the two
seeming to have substance
weight
but having none
so i am adaptable and
never the same twice

i am rooted in the earth
upright and
reaching toward heaven
arms above head
swaying with the wind
